Huckberry is a bi-weekly magazine + shop that brings you the coolest gear at members-only prices along with the stories behind the products. It's free, awesome + secure.
The GR1 is the original GORUCK product and represents GORUCK’s highest standards of functionality, durability, and a unique style.
Special Forces are the judge and jury of quality at GORUCK. Made by American workers with American materials, GORUCK makes some of the finest bags on the planet that are backed by a Scars Lifetime Guarantee, and have been used and abused by Special Forces in war. A few of us here at Huckberry use GORUCK as our #1 bag, and love its versatility, whether we're using it for our daily commute, packing it with bricks for a GORUCK Challenge, or taking it on a trip to Asia.
Built in the USA of 100% military grade materials and tough enough for Special Forces, the GR1 thrives as a daypack in any environment imaginable.

Why we love this bag:
Special Forces who have used the GR1 in combat report that durability and low profile relative to volume capacity make it an ideal assaulter’s pack. For us civilians, this means you're getting a minimalistic pack that has everything you need, nothing you don't.
Unlike most packs, the GR1 opens completely flat for optimal organization and easy packing. This feature, along with the organizational pockets on the inside, make it the ideal travel bag.
The GR1 uses beefy YKK zippers because, as GORUCK founder and former Green Beret Jason McCarthy has noted: "YKK zippers are the only zippers I trust because I’ve subjected them to everything, and seen them perform during Middle Eastern sandstorms and after being dragged through the mud." And yes, we are geeking out about zippers.
The GR1 takes 3.5 hours of labor to build. That's 3.5 hours of American labor using American materials.
The laptop compartment doubles as a hydration bladder compartment.
Heavy duty shoulder straps are ergonimically designed to (comfortably) withstand heavy contents. The bag overall has great load distribution.
Three rows of webbing at the bottom of GR1 follow the MOLLE system used by the military, which allows soldiers to customize their kit with accessory pockets of their choosing (think: ammo pouches, magazine holders, grab bags etc.)
The GR1 is designed and sewed to be tougher than a $2 steak.
So yeah, this is pretty much the ideal everyday bag. If you're looking to geek out a bit more on the GR1, hear about it in GORUCK founder Jason McCarthy's words here (which is also where we sourced most of these awesome pictures).
